Chris Halsey is a professor of Paediatric Haemato-Oncology and Head of School of Cancer Sciences, University of Glasgow. Her particular interest is in central nervous system (CNS) involvement in acute leukaemia. The mission of the Halsey Lab is to improve outcomes for children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) by 1) discovering novel drugs to treat CNS-leukaemia that are more effective and have less side-effects and 2) reducing the toxicity of current CNS-directed therapy regimens. Chris is also passionate about supporting early-career researchers, patient and public engagement in research and team science.

Chris has seen first-hand the impact of the relationship between the School of Cancer Sciences and the Howat Foundation. The School of Cancer Sciences is extremely grateful to the Howat Foundation for their generous support. This support has enabled us to make several staff appointments, provide start-up funds for new research groups and develop a number of other research areas that would not have been possible otherwise. Philanthropic giving enables us to be creative in our research and focus on interesting scientific results without the constraints of traditional grant funding. This high risk high gain research undertaken in the School of Cancer Sciences with generous financial contributions and support from the Howat Foundation is driving change in cancer treatment and better outcomes for our patients.
